Nepal’s regulator NTAhas recommended that the ICT ministry opens Voice over Broadband services for private companies. Voice over broadband is part of an IT project supported by the Asian Development Bank which encourages the government to gradually open Voice over IP (VoIP) services. The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has suggested that the government select companies that can operate the service in at least 25 districts. Current regulations limits operators to only make calls overseas not receive international calls via the internet. The voice over broadband operators would be allowed to make and receive calls via the internet using Wimax in the 2.3 MHz band.
